In a moment, summer will be upon us with its glorious bounty, including Murchie’s iced tea blends reminiscent of summer fruits and perfect picnics.

Think: big juicy stone fruit herbal blends, berries at their peak of ripeness to compliment black tea and lots of enlivening citrus flavours… but we’re not quite there yet. This is the time to stock your tea cupboard and hone your iced tea making skills before the weather really heats up. 
This post is a two-in-one deal: two ways in which you can prepare for the hot season to come. Big Batch Iced Tea Brew

Everyone needs a recipe for a make-ahead, big-batch pitcher of iced tea to keep in the fridge.

INGREDIENTS 

  • 4 tablespoons of either black, green or herbal loose tea OR 4 tea bags
  • ~1 litre freshly boiled hot water

METHOD
You will need two large heatproof jugs and a strainer. Recipe can be doubled or halved. Only one jug is required if using tea bags. Refrigerated shelf life of 4 days.

  1. Scoop the tea into a heatproof jug
  2. Pour hot water over the tea
  3. Steep for 10 minutes
  4. Hold a fine mesh strainer over the second jug and strain
  5. Make in advance to allow it to cool, store in the fridge 

Quick Single-Serve Recipe

A quick brew recipe to pour into your travel mug and head out the door.

INGREDIENTS 

  • 1 tablespoons of either black, green or herbal loose tea OR 2 tea bags
  • ~8oz freshly boiled hot water
  • Ice cubes to fill cup

METHOD
You will need a measuring cup and strainer.

  1. Scoop the tea into a heatproof measuring cup
  2. Pour hot water over the tea
  3. Steep for 3-5 minutes
  4. Fill your cup with ice cubes
  5. Hold a fine mesh strainer over your cup of ice and pour tea in
  6. Add lemon / sweetener as desired
