Arnold Palmer
Breanne Teranishi - July 31, 2023
Author: Layla Osberg
Here in Canada it can seem like we wait an eternity for summer sunshine to arrive, but we are eventually rewarded with some gloriously long, hot days. With it, activities have shifted to the patio for cold drinks. Although I’ve not come out from the shade of the umbrella, I’m worshipping the sun by doing as many activities as possible out there sipping on Arnold Palmers. Eating meals with an Arnold Palmer; tending to the potted plants with an Arnold Palmer; reading with an Arnold Palmer.
For this drink of the summer, which is basically half iced tea and half lemonade, made famous by Arnold Palmer the pro golfer, we make a pitcher of traditional black iced tea, using our easy quick brew method that’s a lifesaver when things get hot. We then add fresh lemon and sugar as the lemonade. I only wish I had a larger fridge to satisfy my summer beverage needs.
Arnold Palmer
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 5 teabags (we used 1894 Select Orange Pekoe) or 4 TBSP of loose tea
- ½ cup sugar
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 4 cups ice cubes (or cold water)
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice
Directions
Pour boiling water over tea bags, sugar and lemon zest in a heat proof container, like a bowl or pitcher. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and steep for 5 minutes.
Pour mixture through a fine mesh sieve into the pitcher and discard tea bags and zest. Add the ice cubes(or cold water) and stir in the lemon juice. Chill in the fridge. Serve over a cupful of ice.Â
