Decaf is Not the Same Taste  Review by  ['TeaPerson']

I love this Canadian breakfast flavour, but the decaf version tastes off. I will switch back to caffeinated.

Maple flavor is overwhelming  Review by  NancyG

I love Murchie's teas and have tried many, many blends. This is the first one that I consider unpalatable. Rather than being "subtle", I found the maple flavor to be overwhelming and unpleasant. I generally don't enjoy flavored teas, so perhaps it's just me. I find Murchie's Earl Grey, both regular and decaffeinated, to be excellent. Canadian Breakfast not so much.

Like Drinking Tea While Eating Pancakes (In the Best Way)  Review by  ['Gabi']

Our household has loved Murchies for over a decade, and after having to switch to decaffeinated tea for health reasons, I was thrilled to see the C02 decaffeinated line! This tea is delicious! It has a nice full bodied black tea taste with just the right amount of nutty/maple flavor. This has quickly become my afternoon tea of choice.

Order it in bulk, life wouldn't be the same without it  Review by  ['Kate']

My husband and I love this tea so much that we order it in bulk so we always have a box on hand, and to give away as gifts. Inevitably (in non pandemic times) a guest would ask about this fabulous tea, and we would give them a box. This tea has a captivating maple scent but the taste isn't sweet or cloying. It's nutty and comforting and complex. We have searched high and low for strong and delicious decaf black teas, and once we found this one we can't be without it. I hope Murchie's never stops making Canadian Breakfast!

WOW!  Review by  ['TeaOverCoffeeInSeattle']

I am so very grateful for this decaf tea! I have to severely limit my caffeine and finding a tasty "black tea" decaf is difficult. This tea is amazingly delicious and I can drink it all day. Thank you!

Best Tea  Review by  Quinntification

Hands-down my favourite tea of all the ones I've tried over the years. Hope they never stop selling this one. Whenever I make a cup, everyone comments about how it makes the house smell like maple, and it's glorious.

A Pleasant Surprise  Review by  Walker44

I ordered these on a whim as I was looking for something decaf to inspire me. As I age I find I've become more and more sensitive to caffeine, but still feel the desire for a 'brisk cuppa' in the AM. The Canadian Breakfast was a really welcome surprise. Ordered just the sample size but am back less than a week later ordering 2 boxes of 50 and already putting a reminder in my calendar to order more before I hit the 100 day mark. I'm that confident they'll be all gone. I get several cups from a bag, so can even have my second cup later in the day without the worry of a sleepless night. Its a full-flavoured tea with the lightest touch of maple. I am not a sweet tooth, nor do I like maple syrup and pancakes, so imagine my delight that I found a delicious decaf solution that satisfies my taste for a real cup of tea, and that also has an extra touch of sweetness without the cloying flavours found in most retail brands. I'm happily addicted and look forward to my morning tea without the caffeine hit.

Yum!  Review by  Maryrose

I LOVE the new decaf Canadian Breakfast tea, hint of maple. I had already discovered the delightful aroma and taste of the regular Canadian Breakfast, but I need to drink decaf most of the time for various health reasons. The fact that I can drink this as often as I want...aahhh. I now drink it once or twice daily!

Flavour Profile Guide

Tea and coffee tasting is a very individual, multi-dimensional experience: one person’s perfect cup can be too strong or weak, too brisk or watery for the next person. At Murchie’s, we believe that the best tea or coffee is the one that YOU like the best! We use the following flavour profile guides to help compare our teas and coffees within a relative scale.

Tea Strength Ratings

This rating method indicates the strength of flavour each tea has when brewed according to our brewing guide.

RATING

RATING PROFILE
Light/Delicate Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Light/Delicate: Very light in colour and delicate in flavour
Medium Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium: Medium-light cup with slightly fuller cup
Medium-Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium-Strong: Medium-dark cup, medium body, and full flavour without harshness
Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Strong: Full body, rich cup, takes milk well
Very Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee               Very Strong: Rich, dark cup with very full, strong flavour and briskness

Coffee Ratings

We rate the flavour properties of our coffees along two dimensions: roast and body.

Roast is simply a result of how long and how hot the beans have been roasted, which can be seen in the colour of the finished bean, and typically results in general flavour traits:

Light Roast           More acidity, brightness and a slight pucker
Medium Roast           Slightly richer flavours, some acidity, enhanced creaminess
Dark Roast           Distinctive roasted flavour, sometimes notes of toasted sugar or charcoal

Body is the term used to describe how the brewed coffee feels in your mouth:

Light Body           Easy to drink with little lingering flavour, ‘thin’ or ‘clean’ feeling on the palate
Medium Body           Heavier, creamier mouth-feel with more lingering flavour
Full Body           Rich, full-mouth feeling: hits all of the palate and lingers

Tea Brewing Guide

Different types of teas should be brewed according to certain times and water temperatures to bring out their best flavours. Use this guide as a starting point, and then experiment until you find the perfect brewing method for your favourite tea.

Based on approximately one level teaspoon (2.5g) of loose tea or one tea bag per 6-8 ounce (180-240ml) cup. For stronger flavour, add more tea. Brewing for longer may increase the strength of the tea, but will likely also cause bitterness.

Brew times shown in minutes.

Coffee Brewing Guide

The simplest methods for brewing coffee are drip coffee, pour over and French press. These guidelines are a starting point; modify the ratio of coffee to water, the grind, and brewing time to your taste. If your coffee is not strong enough, increase the proportion of coffee per cup of water, grind the beans finer, or allow them to brew longer – or any combination of these factors. If your coffee is too strong, simply do the opposite.

Drip coffee or pour over method: hot water is gradually poured over coffee grounds and slowly drips through

  • Fine to medium grind coffee
  • 1.5 to 2.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup of water
French press: coffee grounds are ‘steeped’ in hot water, and then a filter presses down the grounds, allowing the finished coffee to be poured off
  • Coarse grind coffee
  • 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup (e.g. 4-6 tbsp for a 4-cup French press)
  • Pour about 1/3 of the water over the coffee grinds; wait about 30 seconds and then pour in the rest
  • Wait 4-5 minutes, then push down the plunger to separate the grounds from finished coffee, and enjoy!
