Longtime Fav  Review by  Shannon

I hunted for a maple tea for a while after my previous favorite was discontinued by another company. Found this one and based on reviews gave it a try. It is now my go-to for morning tea. Simple and wonderful. Perfectly balanced with sweet and strong, aromatic and satisfying. Other non-tea drinkers in my office now come in regularly to get their fix too. Can't recommend enough.

My favorite tea  Review by  Becky

I've been trying quite a few different black teas; this one is by far my favorite! The scent is wonderfully maple-ish, and the taste has a mild maple flavor, but not at all sweet. I don't care for flavored teas but this one is different - so subtle. There are tiny bits of apple in the loose tea & I am guessing that these are infused with the maple flavor. Still, this tea is not sweet, which is the way I like it. And not only is this tea superb when brewed hot, it is most delicious as an iced tea. I accidentally discovered this when I had a little tea left over and put it in the fridge. When I drank it cold, I was most happy with the result!

The best iced tea!!!  Review by  Carrie

Like many reviewers for the Sugar Maple, other than Earl Grey (Love Bergamot), I'm not a fan of flavored teas. This is excellent hot on a cold winter day. I decided to try it as an iced tea. WOW!!!!!!! Refreshing and just the right bit of sweet. Thank you for making this blend!!!!

my new favourite  Review by  ['Tarahill']

This tea is lovely. Hot or cold. It is billed as a fall tea but is is a great summer tea too and has become my new favourite. Just the right amount of flavour and not overdone on sweetness (I dislike sweet tea or coffee). This is fabulous as an iced tea with no additives. Hands down best tea over ice for taking with me on the tractor on a hot day.

Wonderfully Comforting  Review by  ['Susan']

I don't usually like flavored teas, but ordered this for Christmas and love it! It's perfect on cold rainy mornings, afternoons and evenings. Will definitely order again!

Smelled amazing!  Review by  Elle

Ooooh this tea is so wonderful. I'm usually very careful not to drink flavoured teas, but this one smelled like maple syrup, tasted like clear black tea, and had a wonderful mapel syrup after taste. It tricked my brain into thinking it was sweetened! Highly recommend!

Fabulous  Review by  Tarahill

I was a bit worried this tea would be 'sweet' but it perfect. Lovely maple flavour but not overdone and nothing chemically or artificial in flavour. Love it. Already ordering more because I do not want to run out.

I love Maple!  Review by  Erin

Another great maple tea from Murchie's (I'll admit to buying 2oz of each I could find: Maple Chai, Canadian Breakfast, Canada 150, and this)! It is a nice twist on a cup of black tea that makes it fun and exciting to drink. Another winner!

My new favorite  Review by  Stellula

I don't usually like caramel-like flavors in my tea so I'm not too sure what inspired me to try this one out. I expected not to like it! But, boy am I grateful I did. The maple flavor is bold yet light, and isn't cloying. This tea is marvelous on its own, and has great breakfast food synergy, begging to be accompanied with eggs and buttery toast or croissants.

Delish!  Review by  Stephanie

If you love maple this is the tea for you. When brewing it smells like someone has made a big plate of pancakes. It's delicious hot or cold,a touch of cream makes for a very decadent cup of tea.

Sugar Maple is very addictive!  Review by  Kos

This tea is amazing. I was surprised my husband commented how good it smelled and he was right. For once, I was glad he isn't a tea drinker otherwise I'd have to share! Love Maple...10/10

My family loves it!  Review by  Jeannette

We really enjoy this tea! I am so glad we can buy it over the internet and don't have to go all the way from Alberta to Victoria to get it.

Good stuff  Review by  Sherry

I usually find flavored black teas disappointing because the type of tea used isn't the best. This tea doesn't have that problem. There's a definite maple background and no bitterness. I hope it will be available year-round.

A sweet, full bodied black tea that evokes a deep, sense of well being.  Review by  Joybilee Farm

I brought 8 oz of this tea back from a trip to Victoria, BC and my college age daughter has claimed it. It's a delicious, sweet tea that reminds me of the fist-size maple sugar candies of my childhood in Ontario. I'm glad to see that Murchies has an online store, because I'll definitely need to buy more of this tea. It's become a mandatory part of my winter afternoons, on the snowy mountains of BC.

Craving something sweet and warm?  Review by  MR

This tea is sure to do the trick. The maple flavour actually tastes authentic, but doesn't overpower the cranberry and apple. Highly recommend this after raking up the fall leaves!

Tried out sugar maple today and my only regret is I didn't buy more! Naturally sweet, full flavor.... Might be the best tea I have ever smelt or tasted... 10/10. Thank you!

Flavour Profile Guide

Tea and coffee tasting is a very individual, multi-dimensional experience: one person’s perfect cup can be too strong or weak, too brisk or watery for the next person. At Murchie’s, we believe that the best tea or coffee is the one that YOU like the best! We use the following flavour profile guides to help compare our teas and coffees within a relative scale.

Tea Strength Ratings

This rating method indicates the strength of flavour each tea has when brewed according to our brewing guide.

RATING

RATING PROFILE
Light/Delicate Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Light/Delicate: Very light in colour and delicate in flavour
Medium Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium: Medium-light cup with slightly fuller cup
Medium-Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium-Strong: Medium-dark cup, medium body, and full flavour without harshness
Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Strong: Full body, rich cup, takes milk well
Very Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee               Very Strong: Rich, dark cup with very full, strong flavour and briskness

Coffee Ratings

We rate the flavour properties of our coffees along two dimensions: roast and body.

Roast is simply a result of how long and how hot the beans have been roasted, which can be seen in the colour of the finished bean, and typically results in general flavour traits:

Light Roast           More acidity, brightness and a slight pucker
Medium Roast           Slightly richer flavours, some acidity, enhanced creaminess
Dark Roast           Distinctive roasted flavour, sometimes notes of toasted sugar or charcoal

Body is the term used to describe how the brewed coffee feels in your mouth:

Light Body           Easy to drink with little lingering flavour, ‘thin’ or ‘clean’ feeling on the palate
Medium Body           Heavier, creamier mouth-feel with more lingering flavour
Full Body           Rich, full-mouth feeling: hits all of the palate and lingers

Tea Brewing Guide

Different types of teas should be brewed according to certain times and water temperatures to bring out their best flavours. Use this guide as a starting point, and then experiment until you find the perfect brewing method for your favourite tea.

Based on approximately one level teaspoon (2.5g) of loose tea or one tea bag per 6-8 ounce (180-240ml) cup. For stronger flavour, add more tea. Brewing for longer may increase the strength of the tea, but will likely also cause bitterness.

Brew times shown in minutes.

Coffee Brewing Guide

The simplest methods for brewing coffee are drip coffee, pour over and French press. These guidelines are a starting point; modify the ratio of coffee to water, the grind, and brewing time to your taste. If your coffee is not strong enough, increase the proportion of coffee per cup of water, grind the beans finer, or allow them to brew longer – or any combination of these factors. If your coffee is too strong, simply do the opposite.

Drip coffee or pour over method: hot water is gradually poured over coffee grounds and slowly drips through

  • Fine to medium grind coffee
  • 1.5 to 2.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup of water
French press: coffee grounds are ‘steeped’ in hot water, and then a filter presses down the grounds, allowing the finished coffee to be poured off
  • Coarse grind coffee
  • 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup (e.g. 4-6 tbsp for a 4-cup French press)
  • Pour about 1/3 of the water over the coffee grinds; wait about 30 seconds and then pour in the rest
  • Wait 4-5 minutes, then push down the plunger to separate the grounds from finished coffee, and enjoy!
